I'm 45 yrs old male dark coarse short hair and needs to change color?

Like I said the texture of my hair is coarse and want to know the best way to light the color of my hair for something very noticiable light like ash blond or even silverish...or I'll be fine if only get highlights ..which is the best way to do it at home without spend a lot!

If you have coarse hair be careful of what you use.

I would say you need to go to Sally Beauty Supply and get a more professional color over going to Wal-Mart, Wahgreen, etc. and picking something out that will make your hair extremely dry.

If you are wanting to go w/ highlights I know a very easy way to go about it.

Go to Sallys B S and get Radical Blonde Bleaching kit, it is the best they have. When you get home spike your hair up w/ a firm hold gel, get it piecy looking and once it is dry. take a pc. of aluminum foil and make a mit around your 4 fingers leaving the thumb unwrapped, than apply bleach to the foil kinda thick, but not running off, than apply the bleach to your ends, it'll let you see where the blonde will be. DON"T MESS w/ the highlighting cap that the kit comes w/, if your hair is short the cap will not work well w/ short hair.

You are not too old for highlights, give it a try.

Buy any coloring product with 'permanent' on the box...

leave the color on for at least 25 minutes but probably for the full 45 minutes in your case because of the big shade change...

follow the instructions in the box, it's really pretty easy and most are under $5.00 an application now.

Going from a very dark to very light is tricky. You very well may end up paying for a color specialist to correct what you mess up.

If you process it the wrong amount of time, it will be orange.

Possibly go to a beauty supply store, and ask their advice. Try to find a clerk with hair similar to yours.

Go to the store. buy a couple boxes of "Just for Men" beard,mustache and side burn color. They have hair color too but the one for beard and mustache and sideburns lasts much longer! anyways follow directions, it only takes 5 minutes!Coarse hair takes color much easier than thin hair. If your hair is dark I would suggest not going any lighter than "light brown" to do so looks totally un-natural and you would probably be laughed at! In my honest opinion lighten your hair 1 or 2 shades and then around the temple area lighten it 1 shade lighter or darker than the shade you go with for your hair. Just kind of brush it through a little and leave for only 2 minutes.

Since your hair is dark, you might not want to lighten it too much. It will damage your hair. Try hi-lighting with a copper-ish or caramel color. It won't be too drastic, but it will get noticed.
