If you have afro-caribbean hair, it is unlikely, tho not impossible, that you will have blonde hair.

Black hair throws off red and then orange pigments as you try to lighten it and you may well be left with a bright copper tone, (not a good look unless god intended it for you)

Also, I would NOT try to do this yourself, go to a hairdresser, get an honest opinion on what they may think the outcome would be, get a quote, because it may take more than one visit to the salon and ask them for alternatives to going blonde.

It is such a damaging process for you hair to go thru and if not done properly, you can end up with no hair.

Please take my advice.

u might try to use the hair bleaching products at the store - they will work best if they have the photo of a black person with blond hair because it was meant for stronger hair like ours.

u can also use a peroxide, but that will take many treatments before it turns a nice blond instead of an odd yellow. the best thing might be to wait for the weekend when you are not going to be meeting too many people. use the peroxide or bleach on friday night. wear a hat around until sunday morning. then get some of that dye that turns it platinum. it will turn colors easier if it is already light.

as for turning it back to black, you may want to wait a few more days until the hair can recover, otherwise you might find that the overuse of chemicals will have begun to destroy the quality of the hair. but no worries, it will grow back normally.

when you have dark you need to put pre lightner on it and then the blone hair dye. if you want to go from light to dark then just choose the dark hair colour you wish to goto and then your light hair should become dark. the way i look at it is its only hair it grows and if doubt put a hat on. or just dont take any notice of what any one thinks. and me being a woman i have tried many hair colours some have not work some have and i have plenty of hats that have been very useful.

You obviously used a color with a violet base and your hair being porous picked up the base. What you can do is give yourself a bleach bath. Mix 40 volume bleach with some shampoo. Have someone do this for you. That way they can watch as the lavender is lifted from your hair and they can immediatley rinse your hair, shampoo and condition it.

If she's constantly bleaching her hair, it will fry it. If you keep bleaching the same parts over and over it will break off. She needs to get some intensive conditioner (the really thick kind that you leave on for at least 3 minutes...Pantene is normally the best bet) and she also needs to get some leave-in conditioner so she has something protecting her hair all day. Pantene should also have some type of leave-in spray conditioner. She needs to not bleach her bangs again until her hair is healthy again. I don't think all of the hair will break off but she needs to be careful with it when she brushes it and it would be best if she can keep from blow drying it for a while so the conditioner can have a chance to repair some of the damage. If the hair is so broken down that it stretches 4-5 times it's length and then snaps and curls up- it is dead. That hair really needs to come off. Do not shampoo very frequently, use little or no heat and when you do use heat apply a thermal heat protector. This is a hard lesson to learn.

one trick that will help is to towel dry before conditioner. i know i have typed this at lest a million and one times, but i know how well it works. so here it is again:

also try using ethnic haircare products. your hair is super dry and coarse - just like ethnic hair. i love mizani products and i have quite a few 'white' clients who use it.

that hairstylist didn't do her job correctly and for that i apologize. there is a bleach that is used for the scalp and it doesn't burn and it also doesn't take an hour to 'come up' to the level you needed.

as for the color, i don't know how porous your hair is so i can't tell you what to do about the color situation except go to a real salon (not the hair choppery) - one who specializes in color and ask if there is anything that can be done. they will check out the porosity of your hair, ask you some questions about what products you are using (color is usually guaranteed with purchase of haircare products), ask how much time you spend on 'doing' your hair, and give you some suggestions.

It depends on your skin tone. If you have pale skin, or slightly tan skin it'd look beautiful. If you have an olive complexion or darker, don't do red. Red/Brown wouldn't look right. And either way Red/Brown and blond is a DEFINITE no-no. The colors contrasting with each other is so noticeable in a bad way. People will think you screwed up when you were trying to die your hair. It just looks really bad.

HA been there done that... Ok first off, if you wanna go blonde AT home, you gotta get a Highlighting kit and then put it ALL over the hair, not just highlights. Just rub it all in... You have to leave it on for the alotted time. YOu may want to put a light blonde regular hair color on it. It doesnt go orange because you didnt leave it on long enough, it goes orange because you have alot of red undertones in it, fo rinstance if you have brown hair, it naturally has either red or gold undertones. This will damage your hair though, trust me... SO if you want to get platnum blonde, Go to a salon. I went to the hairdressers and mine went wrong going on Wednesday to sort it out, the hairdresser i normally see wasn't available and ended up looking horrific!! Like a rod steawrt lookalike but with multi colours!!!! If i was you please go to a good hairdresser and get it sorted so they can condtion it and get it to the colour you want . I decide to highlight my light brown hair...wanted to get light blond highlights. It didn't work. So, I dyed my hair a darker color...thinking it would cover it up. Well, it did but my hair is nearly black. I used Clairol Herbal Essences. I called the 800 number they said to go to a salon. But all the salons are closed now. I want to fix it now...does anyone know what would work?

Grab some dish soap from the kitchen (not the kind for your dish washer) and start washing your hair with it. It will slowly strip the color. You might need to wash it a few times tonight but it will fade, then tomorrow go to a salon.

deep condition your hair then buy a hair color with a lighter shade than you want because the hair is already really dark. Deep condition again after you dye your hair to prevent damage.

Well you can buy strippers and now they have some that aren't so hard n your hair. But Clairol stuff does wash out over time some it will lightin up. and if you have already highlighted it and then colored it again you need to ALEAST wait a week before you do anything

If someone had light brown hair and they dyed it black would it be more damaged that say if they dyed it medium brown?? Would it be more damaged if they dyed it very blond as opposed to dirty blond?? When you take brown hair and color it black you are just depositing color to your hair. When you bring brown hair up to blond you are opening the hair shaft and drawing the pigment out. So it doesnt matter what color your hair is if you making it lighter you are damaging it worse than taking it darker. This does not mean that it doesnt damage your hair if you take it darker but damages it worse going lighter. Hope this answers your question.

Of course it all depends on how dark your natural color is and how light you want to go.

Hair color is measured in levels. One being black and ten being the lightest blonde.

Hair color will only lift the natural color of hair 3-4 levels, if you're lucky more than that bleach is needed.

If "someone" had light brown hair it would be considered a natural level of 6-7. Blondes start at level 7-8. So achieving blonde on someone with a natural level 6-7 would be easy with color.

If "someone" had hair darker than a 6 then bleach would be needed to lighten it.

As far as damage, if you go to a professional hairstylist you would be safer. Professional hair colors now have a lot of ingredients and additives that now protect the hair from the extreme damage of the old days.

Even bleach is not as harmful as it used to be, however be warned bleach will still dry out your hair.

going from light brown to medium brown or to black damages it the same. but going lighter is more damaging because you need to bleach your hair and thats what kills it. if you have light brown hair it would be more damaging to go blond than black because for black you just dye it black. but for blond you have to bleach than dye it the blond you want.

its just like paint, you could keep on adding color to make it darker, but if you want to go lighter you have to start with blank. thats what the bleach does to your hair.

all hair colors are damaging to some extent....but if you stick to hair color (going from med brown to blond), you will do less damage than using a bleach to do the lightening. Most light colors have a lifting agent to bring up the color. You wont be platinum, but you will be lighter..if platinum is the look you want, you'll need to bleach first.

Going darker will eventually fade, but not completely, you'll have to re-dye to get back to a color you like..or your original color ..but try a semi permanent that lasts just a few washings to test it out..

you might also try going to a beauty supply for colors and developer. most developers come in 20 volume...(as do most boxed dyes) you can buy different volumes like 40 for lighter looks...or 10 for a not so lifting shade. they're also more likey to have a bigger variety of colors to choose from and can possibly give you more advice. have fun..and good luck

You will need a filler on your blonde highlights and blonde patch, you probably need to remove the color from the red lowlights and possibly put a filler on that, to get them to take the color somewhat evenly. depending on what your natural color is it may not be an allover even tone.

If I were you I'd go with a dark brown and not black! With no blond. I think you could make it blond and black at the bottom but you need different cuts for that and you won't really be able to express what you're feeling when you want to fix your hair without dying it! So just a dark brown would be good. Hope this helped!

At the dollor store in the week of halloween, usually they carry temporary hair color. Or pay more in the pharmacy color for kids which will last up to ten washes.

I've had every color you can think of. I usually use Manic Panic because it washes out very quickly even tho it's semi permanent. Pravana is the best but it does take about a week or two to wash out completely. Also I recommend bleaching before you use color so it will show up more intense and vibrant. It you but it on ash hair it will have an ashy tint to it. But whatever you want!*

I've tried. I swear I have. But I can't stop playing with my hair! I don't pull it out; I just can't stop playing with it. I'll feel like my hair isn't parted right so I'll end up moving hair over to the other side and vice-versa, and once my hand is up there messing with it it'll never come down! I've tried putting it up in a ponytail, but it's layered, so there's still plenty of loose hair up there that I always end up playing with anyway. Devise a replacement action. If you're a hair-puller, start carrying a brush and brush your hair each time you get the pulling or twisting urge.

I've told two other people on here this...so here goes.

This is what I do for my curls:

First, I put defining cream in my hair (the de-frizz kind from sunsilk) when it is slightly damp. Don't towel dry it a whole lot yet.

Then I put in some mousse and work it through all my hair. You could also use gel if you like it better.

then I spray it with hairspray.

if you want to scrunch your curls, don't touch them with your hands, scrunch it with a towel. This will reduce frizz.

lastly, let it air dry.

Most importantly, DONT touch your hair until it's dry. The more you touch it the more frizz you'll create.

what you do is use an extra body shampoo and conditioner.. once you've washed it use moose and blow dry your hair upside down.. when its dry spray hair spray onto the tips of your fingers and mess your hair up from the roots, that gives it heapfs of volume... you can get these sprays for your hair they're like salt water but they sort of make your hair curly at the same time lol.

freaky streak time! I think people use vaseline to protect the hair they don't want bleached... Might as well get it done professionally though so you don't have to work as hard. Just give them the picture, they'll know what to do. Careful not to get it in your eyes. I had a friend that did styles like that. I never asked her how..

I recently had my hair double-processed to an all-over blond and I'm really not happy with how it looks. I went back to the salon and had low-lights added in two different colors; the sides took really well and I'm pleased with how that area looks. My problem is with my crown area and the area just around my face. It is a very orangey-yellow blond without much dimension, and looks very artificial, especially in comparison to rest of my hair. The stylist said that the crown area was too porous to take the lowlights....I understand the concept of bleaching and porousity; my question is more of what my next step should be. Before all this I was a light ashy brown heavily highlighted to a light cool blonde. I would really like to get back to this look (with more dimension) as soon as I can. I'm really fair and this color really looks awful with my skin. Please help, I feel quite ugly and have a class reunion coming up in a little over a month! Thanks for your help!

Your stylist is right. With so much damage from the bleach, and double processing, there's not much you can do. I guess you could try extensions, or putting your hair up in a ponytail then adding on a hairpiece to that (they are much cheaper and look nice for special occasions). Other than that, you're gonna have to keep trimming it and letting it grow out again.

I agree with the second poster. I also wouldn't put your hair through any more trauma than it has already been in because your crown area sounds like it is just too damaged too take any more coloring. Think of your hair like a sponge; a fresh sponge works really well, soaking up everything, but as the sponge wears out, it just doesn't hold anything anymore. You can always wear a head band for your reunion, they're are in this year. :)

* Shampoo the hair and condition it as normal.

* Hair will still show curls and waves.

* Apply serum to hair. Amount depends on type and length of hair.

* Spread serum in palms and rub into hair, smoothing the hair along its length.

* Use a hair dryer and paddle brush and start drying the hair encouraging straightness by brushing through the hair as you dry. Set the hairdryers temperature to medium until hair is completely dry.

* Already hair will show signs of straightening but is still frizzy and dry and lacks shine.(Straightness would not last)

* With medium or long hair use clips to separate hair so that you can concentrate on one section at a time.

* Starting at the front with a small section of hair use you straightener down the length is a swift smooth motion.

* Repeat this step on the next section and continue using small sections right round the head.

* Always run the straightener from top, down the hairs length and continue until straightener runs off the hair at the end and hair falls away. Do not stop at any point and try to keep the sweep even and consistent.

* On larger sections you may need to repeat the run with the straightener 2-3 times.

* Once the majority of hair has been straightened finish the style by blending at the ends. With no clips run the straightener close to the ends and off the ends of the hair. This will stop separation that might occur when using sectioning clips.

* You should be left with sleek shiny frizz free straight hair which should last a long time.

first things first..stop dying your hair..thats why its so damaged and breaking.coloring your hair continiously is not always a good thing...you need to leave it alone and let it grow.I recommend buying a damage repair product from biloage called cera repair.it really helped me.The only thing to do it keep deep conditioning your hair and let the damage grow out.and then in a few months your hair will regain its strength.hope this helps!!

Shaved it all off. It was horrible. I went out two days later and bought a wig. The ladies at the wig shop were soo sweet to me. I thought they were just really nice ladies, but then I realized they thought I was going through chemo. I didn't correct them.

I'm half Filipino and half Dutch and I have really poofy, thick, wavy almost black hair. When I was in grade 7 I got a weird longing to curl my hair. My mum was all excited about this and she decided to do it the old fashioned way and tie my hair up in rags. The next morning we took the rags out and my hair turned into an afro basically. It was really curly, frizzy and poofy. I couldn't take the curls out so i tried to hide it with those butterfly hair clips that used to be in style back then. I got made fun of all day.

Generally fair hair goes gray faster. My Dad's blonde hair was completely gray by the time he was 50, while my Mom's black hair at 50 only has a few mostly unnoticable white hairs. This is one of the reasons why black, Indian, and Asian people tend to age better than people of European descent

My grandfather is 78 years old and still has jet black hair, not a gray to be found. I'm honestly not sure about redheads.

You will need to tell the stylist that you put Sun In in it,don't lie about it because things can go terribly wrong if you don't tell her. There are certain things that can not be used over Sun In. You will not need to have have your hair stripped because there isn't anything on it to strip out,the Sun In lightened your hair. Good luck.

I let my sister color my hair about 3 weeks ago and turned it orange so I completely understand. I say go to the salon with your mom. If you know the place that she is going to take you/who your colorist will be call ahead and tell them what happened and explain that you don't want your mom to know about the sun-in. Or you can wait until you get there and when your mom goes to sit down tell the colorist then. It's important that a colorist does your hair now just in case it turns another color (as hair is known to do) and she can fix it right then. Go ahead and tell your mom the truth, It's not the end of the world . This is easily fixed at your local beauty shop . DO NOT try and fix this yourself from a box dye. PLEASE tell your stylist!!! It is so important that you let them know b/4 they damage your hair! What most people don't know about products like these is that they contain ingredients like metalic dyes, which go in the the cortex (the middle layer of the hair) and can never be removed. So everytime you apply heat to your head (sweating, blowdrying, sunlight, whatever) the metalic dye is going to continually lighten. Not matter what you try to cover it with. Which sounds good...Just add heat and it'll get lighter. But there's a Law Of Color that exists. Red-orange/orange/gold stages of lightening are the hardest to lighten. It takes something really strong to lift haircolor past those levels. Metalic dye isn't that strong. Also, metallic dyes can react (in a very bad way) w/ what your stylist puts on your hair. So you NEED to let them know so they don't apply the wrong chemicals and you end up w/ a disaster. They will know you lied when this happens, just be honest and tell them up front that you did this and they can discuss solutions w/ you. Most stylists can spot these kinds of over-the-counter 'do's, anyway. Unfortunately, you are stuck w/ the metallic dye until all the hair that it was applied to is cut off. Please be honest and avoid a potential disaster! Your stylist will be glad you did!

My hair is kind of damaged but not too badly, it's really thick so I get away with a lot. I want to put a semi-permanent dye like loreal casting creme gloss over my blond highlights to blend it all in and darken my hair to my natural dark blond/light brown. On the box it says you shouldn't use it on 'progressively colored hair', which kinda sounds like it would damage highlighted hair. Yet I've heard of people with bleached hair using semis and being fine. I'm confused. What do you think?

once most of the dye wore out and new hair is there cut off the old dyed hair and go for the lighter look; but right now i HIGHLY suggest you wait it out.

Not a hair stylist but I did just get my hair done yesterday and complained about the same thing. She recommended Paul Mitchell Tea Tree shampoo and conditioner...it's minty. She used it on me and it felt really good on my scalp and smells great. No itching now. It's probably the weather change and the fact that Suave and V05 are really awful and leaving build up on your scalp. Be sure to rinse really well, whatever you use but get rid of those 2.

Try using tea tree shampoo or biolage hydrating shampoo and conditioners. After you shampoo your hair you should use a wash cloth or a hand towel to remove extra water from hair then apply your conditioner leave it on for at least 5 minutes and then rinse with warm water. after you rinse with warm water rinse it again but this time with the water as cold as you can stand it. By using the cold water it allows the hair cuticle (most outer layer of your hair) to close back down after being opened up by all the hot water! Hope this helps ya
