Is it hard to change the color of hair in a photo if your going from dark to light.?

I'm using gimp to change the color of this guys hair in a photo but I can't seem to get the color right. It always seems to come out wrong and I mean reall wrong. He has dark brown hair and I want to change it to blond. Any help here?

Here's the easiest way I've found. This example shows how to turn black hair gray, but this is the starting point for going from brown to blonde.

Once you have really "bleached" the brown hair, select an orange-yellow color for your paintbrush and go over the hair using about 5% opacity. Keep going until you have the degree of color that you want.

I say to do it this way, because it preserves the texture of the hair.

This is NOT a really professional technique, but I'm guessing that you are just curious to see what your hair would look like as a blonde and this will work fine for that.

Here you go. I did one example for you: http://www.flickr.com/photos/samfeinstei...

no i dont think you can.. unless you want to fade the image, lots and lots. but by the time he has blonde hair his face will be gone. LOL.

Well, that girl was wrong lol.

Do you have photoshop? If so, you can use the lasso tool and get all of the hair, and then go to photofilter and try that, if that doesn't work just try any other thing to get it to the shade you want it. But whenever I change my hair color in photoshop, I use photofilter.
